The Importance of CoQ10 in Your Multivitamin

Co-enzyme Q 10 or CoQ10 is a vitamin-like substance that is necessary for the body's vital functions. An enzyme is a protein that acts as a catalyst in chemical reactions. Co-enzymes are needed by enzymes in the body to perform their functions.

The CoQ10 vitamin was discovered just about 60 years ago, by Professor Fredrick L. Crane and his colleagues. A biochemist from Purdue University, Dr. Crane explains, "CoQ10 is involved in energy conversion in the body. With low levels of the substance, muscles won't function properly; nerve impulses from the brain slow down, the activity of all body organs slow down." Since its discovery, research continues to throw light on how this vital nutrient works in the body.

Facts about CoQ10 Vitamin

This vitamin is a vital nutrient that the body requires for the production of energy.
Your body can manufacture CoQ10 vitamin up to the age of twenty, after which levels of this vital nutrient begin to deplete.
Certain prescription medicines, like statin, can accelerate the depletion of CoQ10 vitamin.
Vigorous exercise, a severe illness, or a poor diet can also accelerate the loss of the vitamin, as does the normal process of aging.

How important is CoQ10 as a nutrient?

The CoQ10 vitamin is found in the mitochondria of every cell. It is noted that there is a concentration of CoQ10 in organs such as the heart, liver, kidneys and pancreas, since these organs require the most energy. CoQ10 is utilized by cells for the production of energy, cell maintenance and proliferation.
CoQ10 not only helps in the production of energy, ATP, but is also essential for cell respiration and electron transfer.
CoQ10 vitamins are also effective antioxidants. As such, CoQ10 plays a role in supporting cellular health and protecting cells from free radicals, believed to be the basis of many of today's degenerative ailments.
Because of its ability to stimulate the rate of body metabolism, it is believed to aid in weight management.
The CoQ10 vitamin boosts brain power by increasing energy levels in the brain.
CoQ10 may help to regulate normal blood pressure, especially in people who experience high anxiety levels. Although more research is required, there is enough suggestive evidence that supports the use of CoQ10 supplements for regulating normal blood pressure.
There is also suggestive evidence that shows these vitamins may help to support oral health and ease chronic fatigue.

CoQ10 Vitamin Supplements

Like all nutrients, the CoQ10 vitamin is more easily absorbed by the system in combination with other nutrients. Look for a multi-vitamin supplement that contains CoQ10, along with a broad spectrum of minerals, vitamins, antioxidants and amino acids which can provide you with complete nutritional support for promoting and maintaining a wide variety of specific and general health needs. Most multi-vitamin formulas do not contain this essential nutrient, but a broad-spectrum formula like MultiVescence contains these nutrients:

CoQ10 supports a healthy heart
Selenium and zinc boost immunity
Vitamins C and E are powerful antioxidants that particularly support skin health and anti-aging
Vitamin D, calcium and magnesium support healthy bones and joints, as well as heart health.
Potassium, along with other minerals, help regulate normal blood pressure.
B vitamins are essential for neural health and healthy brain functions.
L-glutamine helps to boost immunity.
Folic acid plays a role in supporting heart health by regulating healthy homocysteine levels.
Citrus bio-flavonoids support immunity.

The key factor for choosing a high-quality multi-vitamin is formulation. It should contain all essential nutrients and provide maximum bio-availability. Most multi-vitamin tablets will give you 60 to 70 percent bio-availability. With an effervescent formula, like MultiVescence, 99 percent of all nutrients are available to the body and are absorbed immediately after ingestion. Effervescent technology enables intestinal walls to absorb nutrients more efficiently and faster.

Add some bubble to your morning routine! Effervescent multivitamins, like MultiVescence, are a refreshing way to get your daily multi-vitamins and a healthy dose of energy-aiding CoQ10 vitamin.

Cardiovascular Training for Wrestlers

Wrestling is a high intensity sport. Thus, conditioning for wrestling calls for high intensity training. In addition wrestling not only requires high intensity power output but an ability to sustain this output for up 6 minutes. Cardiovascular conditioning is one of the most important aspects of a wrestler's training but many times we see wrestlers during the season running for miles only to find themselves tired after the first minute of a match. Many wrestlers ask why this is; the answer is simple, they are training the wrong energy system.

In part 1 of this series on cardiovascular training we will look at the body from the heart, muscles, and lungs. Let's take a look at how exercise affects the body.

When we exercise, our muscles use ATP (adenosine triphosphate) for energy. ATP is the only form of energy the muscles can use. Since this is true, if there was no ATP already synthesized and stored in the tissue cells, you could not perform immediate strenuous work, such as picking up a heavy object, or walking up a flight of stairs. The following events occur in the cell to produce ATP energy: First, there are about 4 seconds worth of ATP already stored in the cells. After this period of sustained muscle contractions ATP in the working muscle is exhausted and the cells resort to the use of Creatine Phosphate and ADP to create more ATP which can provide energy for about another 25-30 seconds. Therefore, the cell has a total combined storage of energy available to last up to about 30-35 seconds during sustained muscle contraction before the cell must resort to the conversion and use of stored muscle glycogen. When energy is needed for longer than 30-35 seconds, stored muscle glycogen is broken down to produce ATP. The end product of this process is then converted into Pyruvate which can also be used for ATP production in the presence of oxygen.

So what does that mean to our bodies? Well since the heart and lungs are somewhat slow in delivering oxygen during the onset of aerobic activity, the pyruvate is used for energy until the heart and lungs catch up and can keep up with the oxygen demand. The rate of breathing is extremely labored at the onset of aerobic exercise because the heart is not yet beating fast enough to provide an adequate volume of oxygenated blood to the working muscles, and the lungs are trying to compensate until the heart does catch up. Once the heart catches up and can provide sufficient oxygenated blood, the respiration decreases, when this happens its called getting your second wind. With that in mind, as your heart becomes stronger, more oxygen will be transferred through the blood system into the muscles. This will help prevent early fatigue. As your mind adapts to an increased workload, you will be able to ignore the discomforts that precede fatigue.

The Energy Delivery Systems

During the course of a wrestling match both the aerobic and anaerobic energy systems are called upon to supply the energy demand. When an athlete trains by running 2 miles a day they are training their aerobic energy system (also referred to as VO2 Max). This system is considered to be the basis for all athletic conditioning. For wrestlers a good solid aerobic training program during the off-season will prepare them for the more intense demands of the season. It

Choosing the Right Muscle Building Supplement

The marketplace is full of supplements available for the average person to take to help their work out program, especially when it comes to weight lifting and bodybuilding. The wide variety of supplements available claim to do great things for the body, but aren't always clear on what exactly they do for you. Some provide only limited benefit while some should be an integral part of your diet, but figuring out which ones are best for you can be difficult.

For those looking for the best supplement for their body, creatine is noted to be the best at doing the job while also being relatively safe for you at small to medium doses. Supplements with creatine work to build lean muscle, meaning that you can develop more muscle without adding more overall fat mass in the process. These supplements also provide your muscles with easily synthesized ATP, which is the source of energy used in the building of muscle mass in the body.

In addition to the necessary energy levels, the body needs to have some levels of essential fats, which are another type of supplement. Essential fats provide the body with certain types of fats, notably Omega-3 and Omega-6, that can help regulate the growth of muscle and provide a source of energy for the body to use in muscle growth.

Another good bodybuilding supplement used by many workout warriors is a protein supplement. These supplements provide the body with different forms of protein without having to ingest as many calories from fat and other sources. The raw protein works to synthesize both the growth of muscle mass as well as provide the body energy to move and otherwise function after the workout is over.

The biggest concern with muscle mass from a workout program, once built up, is the eventual breakdown of it over time without proper maintenance. To this end, one of the best supplement to take is known as glutamine. This muscle building supplement not only works to provide some proteins for the growth of muscle, but also works to slow the breakdown of muscle tissue within the body.

Above all, the body of a weight lifter needs to have more of many different types of vitamins and minerals beyond the raw proteins and carbohydrates supplements provide. This is why all bodybuilding supplement regimens include a potent multivitamin to allow for the body to replenish vital nutrients to the bloodstream. This can enable your body to recover from workouts better and faster, as well as improve your overall health condition.

These nutritional supplements, as with any additional nutrients being taken in, should be used as prescribed by packaging or a professional. When used properly, they can provide the weight lifter the extra boost you need to keep your energy level up and your body in peak condition. Choosing the right supplement may not be easy, but choosing the right one can be a great boost to building muscle mass.

Perfect Acai - What My Wish List For the Perfect Acai Supplement Would Look Like

Perfect is a pretty subjective measure of anything. After all, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.

We all think our kids are perfect, right? Pretty sure my kids have some faults, but in my eyes, they will always be perfect. My point being, sometimes it's difficult to measure perfect.

Off the subject of kids and back to the subject of the perfect acai supplement for a minute, and perfect becomes a measurable quantity.

My wish list for the perfect acai supplement would pretty much boil down to the following:

Acai Content : 500mg. anything less than that and I won't get my antioxidant buzz, so the 500mg content is pretty much carved in stone. With the ORAC value of the acai being what it is, 500mg per capsule sees me well into the upper USDA daily recommendations for antioxidant intake, which is where you should really aim to be.

Acai Quality : Organic, Sambazon. Why settle for anything less than the best here? Nobody is giving these acai capsules away, so for my hard earned cash, I expect the best. The best here combines with an organic farming policy that is good for the environment and the indigenous tribes in the Amazon. What's not to like?

Acai Source : Freeze dried acai pulp. Nothing else. If it's not freeze dried acai pulp I'm simply not interested. If I were a squirrel, I might go for anything made of acai seeds, but I'm not, so I don't.

Capsule or Liquid : The winner is, wait for it...Acai Capsules. The acai berry is a fragile little beast. Pick it and it soon starts to spoil. Add anything to it, and it spoils even more. Acai juices, like any packaged juice, need the addition of preservatives to stay fresh. After all, any liquid with a 12 month shelf life must have stuff added to it. Me, well I'll go for the capsule form any day of the week. No fillers, no additives and certainly no preservatives.

So my perfect acai supplement would be in capsule form, made from organic Sambazon freeze dried acai pulp, with an acai content of 500mg per capsule.

No additives, no fluff, no fillers.

Use One of the Best Muscle Building Tips to Build Muscle Fast

Want to know one of the best muscle building tips which will help you build muscle fast? Read this article to find out this often unknown technique. Building muscle is a long, slow and hard process. You probably know this and want find out other ways to build muscle. Well done this is a great first step to working smarter to achieve your muscle building goals.

One of the biggest problems people have when trying to increase their muscle size and strength is doing the same workouts every time. Your body adapts very quickly to any stimulus you provide it with (like doing weights). Therefore it is important to diversify your workouts every 3 weeks or so, (your body's genetics determines how many times you need to change your workouts). You can of course change variables like sets and reps, but there is a whole range of other muscle building tips and techniques we can use to build muscle fast. Which brings us onto the rest pause method.

Rest Pause Training

Rest pause training is a form of weight lifting were you perform a rep then rest for a short period before before doing another rep, until all the reps are completed in this fashion. The reason this works so well is that after a rep you give your muscle a short time to restore it's ATP stores and basically recover. Then when you perform the next rep you perform another great quality rep and get a lot of tension onto the muscle, (which is vitally important to build muscle). The basic principal is your perform quality reps every time and not flop about the gym pushing out half reps.

As an example you could perform a fairly standard 3 x 8 rep scheme with a bit more weight than you would normally use for 8 reps; Perform 1 rep then rack the weight and rest for 8-10 seconds; Perform another rep and wait for another 8-10 seconds; Keep doing this until all your reps are finished for the set; Rest for 1-2 minutes before attempting another set and continue in this fashion until all sets are finished.

You really should give this method a try as it is one of the best muscle building tips not being widely used. It will definitely help you build muscle fast. You can of course also cycle in other muscle building techniques after 3 weeks of this training to keep making fresh muscle gains. Such as using density, high intensity and other forms of muscle building techniques.

Players to Watch in 2010

One of the surprising features of the tour in 2009 was that only five players recorded a maiden tour win during the season.

Thomaz Bellucci (Gstaad), Guillermo Garcia-Lopez (Kitzbuhel), Jeremy Chardy (Stuttgart), Rajeev Ram (Newport) and Benjamin Becker (s'Hertogenbosch) were the only guys who tasted ATP Tour success for the first time in 2009.

That figure (5) was the joint lowest total during the past decade. Along with 2009, there were also only 5 first-time winners in 2007 - whereas seasons such as 2001 (10), 2006 & 2008 (11), 2002 (12) and 2004 (13) saw many more players breaking through.

A sign of times maybe but also a fact which highlights the need to be extra vigilant when it comes to spotting previous non-winners destined to lift their first title in 2010.
These are the guys who can win at big prices!

The 'top ten' below are all aged 24 or below and all have the ability to record a first tournament win in 2010. Players to follow and ones to put in your notebook as the coming season progresses.

Pablo Cuevas (2009 best performance - SF Hamburg, Vina Del Mar)
Cuevas considers clay to be his best surface and his record thus far certainly bears that out - with five Challenger Tour titles to date (two in 2009) and a distinct preference for dirt in the main ATP Tour events he played in 2009. He turns 24 on January 1st which means that the clock is ticking on the Uruguayan's career but there is no doubt the 5'11" right-hander has the ability to win an event, on clay, whether that be in his native South America or in Europe.

John Isner (SF Washington, Indianapolis)
You might expect a guy who is 6'9" tall to be good at tennis. Well, Isner is good but aged 24 he needs to start winning tournaments - a prodigious server, the North Carolinan is sadly let down by weaknesses in other areas of his game. However, this one-time tour finalist (Washington 2007) has the potential to win, he's won three times on the Challenger Tour (latest Tallahassee 2009), with his best bet looking like being a low-key hard court event, probably in his native USA.

Andreas Beck (RU Gstaad)
The 23-year-old German made a first ATP Tour final this year and after a steady rise up the rankings in 2009 can progress still further in 2010. That final was played on clay where Beck has won once before on the Challenger Tour, and five times on the Futures Tour, and the 6'3" left-hander may find 'the dirt' providing his best chance of a first success. Hard to see him becoming a regular winner on the circuit but he's shown the ability to take any opportunity which presents itself.

Ernests Gulbis (QF St. Petersburg, Tokyo)
Not a good year for the Latvian. A very moderate 20:26 record meant his world ranking headed due South (from 53 down to 90 at the year end) suggesting that all the belief in his early potential was possibly misplaced. However, looking at the matches he lost, very few were against 'no-hopers' with well over half those defeats coming against players inside the top 50. Still only 21, time is on the side of Gulbis and a hard court success, most likely, in 2010 would be no great surprise.

Leonardo Mayer (SF Los Angeles)
The 22-year-old resident of Buenos Aires is a player who could make an impact on both clay as well as hard courts - like so many of his compatriots. On the Challenger Tour his preference appeared to be clay (55:42) as opposed to hard (34:20) but he's prefered the quicker surfaces thus far on the main tour. To date his achievements have been modest but, then again, just enough to go into the notebook as 'one to follow' and it is quite possible that the Argentine could land a first title in 2010.

Evgeny Korolev (RU Delray Beach)
Wild expectation might well have superceded natural development with Korolev to a point where, still only 21, he's being unfairly labelled as something of a disappointment. For sure, the very best players have won events by this age but the Russian has shown enough already (including five Challenger Tour wins) to demonstrate his readiness to win on tour when the right opportunity presents itself. A hard court event looks the best way for the 6'1" Muscovite to gain a maiden win.

Horacio Zeballos (RU St. Petersburg)
This 6'2" lefty has been very successful on the Challenger Tour. Zeballos ran up a 30:9 record in 2009 winning no less than five times (Buenos Aires, Campos Do Jordao, Manta, Bogota, Bucaramanga) before going on to make a first ATP Tour final in his penultimate start of the year. Question is, can he start the new season where he left off in 2010, as soon to turn 25 the chance to make a mark at the highest level is fast fading. Expect the Argentine to notch a first win in 2010.

Somdev Devvarman (RU Chennai)
The 24-year-old from Assam may have made a first tour final in his native India but don't be fooled into thinking he just got lucky on home soil. A back-to-back NCAA champion in the States (beat Isner in 2007) Devvarman has the ability to beat quality opponents (e.g. Marin Cilic in 2009) and mount a serious challenge in tournaments. His age and lack of success to date give the game away as to his overall career potential but a moderate hard-court event is certainly within his reach.

Eduardo Schwank (-)
With a 3:14 record on the main ATP Tour Schwank has to show he can transfer his ability on the Challenger Tour (six titles) onto where it really matters. Wins in Lima and Santiago late in 2009 showcase the Argentine's prowess, notably on clay, but the 23-year-old needs to improve a current singles mark of 113 back to a career high of 50 (February 2009) during the coming year. A match history heavily biased towards clay means Schwank must find success that elusive first win on dirt.

Grigor Dimitrov (-)
One for the future. The Bulgarian is only 18 years old but as a Wimbledon and US Open junior champion in 2008 he has the potential, and time, to make a very big impact in the game. More than a little optimistic to expect a main tour success in 2010 but from a current mark of 287 in the world it would be no surprise to see him break the top 100 in the next 12 months under the tutelage of Peter Lundgren. Make a note of the name and watch out for this player.

Aerobic and Anaerobic Exercises

Aerobic exercise does not necessarily mean all heavy exercises. In fact, some forms of strenuous exercise is anaerobic and affects the body in a different way. If you are starting out on a new exercise regimen, it would be a good idea to find out the difference between aerobic exercise and what is anaerobic. Such knowledge will help you with what exercises to do and how to do them properly. By aerobic exercise, it means "with oxygen", whereas anaerobic means otherwise-"without oxygen". With anaerobic exercise, cellular tissues generate energy without relying on oxygen availability. The distinction between aerobic exercise and anaerobic is that aerobic exercise needs significant production of oxygen supply while anaerobic does not.

Aerobic exercise is more prolonged that's why it requires considerable amounts of oxygen. Oxygen is utilized by the muscles to burn fat and glucose is necessary for the manufacturing of adenosine triphosphate or ATP. ATP is the fundamental transport of all body cells. Initially during aerobic exercise, glycogen is changed into glucose, and as glucose is diminished, fat is metabolized as fuel. Endorphins are released in the brain during the "runner's high" which happens when the muscles depend only on oxygen as the glycogen in the muscles have been used up. Anaerobic exercise doesn't have time to depend on oxygen, that's why it is brief and quick.

The muscles being used rely on energy- producing means that don't significantly need oxygen in anaerobic activities. To produce stamina, the body metabolizes glycogen in the muscles instead. Blood sugar in the body provides glycogen. Aerobic exercise tones body muscle and eliminates fat. Aerobic exercise doesn't merely make you look trim and toned, but would also give you several health benefits:

- strengthening of the heart, thereby increasing pumping efficiency and lowering heart rate resting

- improving circulation and decreasing blood pressure

- strengthening respiratory muscles thereby boosting lung capacity

- increasing red blood cell count making them deliver oxygen more effectively all throughout the body

- reducing the risk of heart diseases Anaerobic exercise, however, gives the body more power and stamina.

This may be helpful in sports like sprint, football or basketball. Anaerobically conditioned muscles develop in another way, boosting power in sudden, high-intensity moments. Other benefits are:

- strengthening of the the bones

- increasing muscle strength and mass

- reducing muscle atrophy that goes with age

- increasing speed and power

Exercises like cycling, swimming, running, walking, rowing and cross-country skiing are some forms of aerobic exercise. Aerobic exercise requires a sustained heart rate and moderate effort.Other home exercises such as using the treadmill and exercise bike or going with a home video are also aerobic. For the outdoors, you may do snow-shoeing, hiking or kayaking.

Tennis, weight lifting, sprinting and jumping, on the other hand are anaerobic in nature. To achieve a total balanced fitness, it is best to combine doing both anaerobic and aerobic exercise. Anaerobic activities is a good complement to aerobic exercise as it will add definition and tone to the physical result of aerobic exercise. It is wise to check with your physician before starting an exercise program. Do your exercises gradually over time with increasing intensity. Don't overdo it as you might injure yourself. Most importantly, a daily exercise routine must be coupled with a balanced diet and sufficient amounts of sleep for optimum health.

The top eight reasons why alcohol can make you fat

The top eight reasons why alcohol can make you fat

It 'been a good deal of research in recent years about the benefits of red wine and safe limits for alcohol consumption, but what about alcohol when you try to diet? The truth may surprise you.

Alcohol consumption can affect the form of wine, beer or brandy, weight loss negative. People who try to find the perfect diet, but alcohol have a harder time losing weight thanTo drink at all do not. Here are some facts:

Alcohol slows the metabolism.

The New England Journal of Medicine published the results of a Swiss study shows That when you click on a diet to 1,250 calories and get only 250 calories from this alcohol, it can slow your metabolism by 36%.

Alcohol or stops your body from burning fat.

Alcohol and fat are both processed in the liver. If the liver is processing alcohol, it can not effectively metabolize fat.

alcohol ora sedative.

Although the beginning may feel better after drinking alcohol, is the ultimate effect of a depression, which has a negative effect on the dieter whole.

Alcohol increases fatigue, or, less likely to have

Alcohol decreases the liver from glucose, the reduction in the amount of ATP (adenosine triphosphate) in the cells. ATP is the fuel for muscle contraction and immediate bursts of energy, and hence its ability toExercise is compromised.

Alcohol causes or dehydration.

Dehydration causes the body to retain water and cause water weight gain.

The alcohol is also a sugar and carbohydrates can trigger the desire and hunger.

In addition, people often eat a snack or a drink in combination with alcohol.

The alcohol is also more likely to stop the weight loss program because it requires your determination to stay here.

Some or alcohol (like beer) is high in both carbohydrate andCalories.

The truth is that these are really bad calories "empty", that have no nutritional value. For example, five grams of a glass of wine about 110 calories, which represents 10% of calories a person if they consume 1,000 calories per day. This is 10% of their registration, which does not help them.

Now we're not saying you have to do a teetotaler (a person should be exempted from alcohol completely) to lose weight. An occasional glass of alcohol is OK, but ifMore than 2 servings per week, and you're overweight, you should cut.

Drinking alcohol and eating high-carb foods are related to the fact that both activities that cause an increase in serotonin in the brain and can give a relaxed, happy feeling that can be addictive.

Muscles - How To Grow Them

Muscle spindles are distributed throughout the muscles and provide sensory feedback information to the central nervous system. Muscle fiber specification appears to be associated with obesity and diabetes. Muscle endurance is developed when you are able to lift up to 70% of your one rep maximum, repeatedly (less weight and higher reps). Muscles are 'pinned' to the skeleton and act just like ligaments do in real life. Muscle fibers with growth-promoting gene fused to green fluorescent protein gene.

Exercise

Exercise-induced blood flow in relation to muscle relaxation period. Contrary to popular belief, the number of muscle fibres cannot be increased through exercise; instead the muscle cells simply get bigger. Various exercises require a predominance of certain muscle fiber utilization over another. A lot of people will say that they like the quiet time of exercise, listening to their breathing, and checking their workout times. Body Building Exercises are an essential part which should be done by each and every person to remain healthy and fit.

Fat

The presence of lactic acid has an inhibitory effect on ATP generation within the muscle though not producing fatigue, it can inhibit or even stop performance if the intracellular concentration becomes too high. It is thought that these calories are used for workout energy, with less deposited as fat. Not only is not effective at burning off body fat, it's also a huge. By the end of this experiment, the control littermates became obese, whereas the transgenic mice still maintained a normal body weight and fat mass composition (Figure 4A).

The irony of the match is that Roger the final "king", the best big points player and tiebreaker leader was beaten in all departments. Does this mean anything for the US Open 2007? Nothing, zero, nada!

Roger can come out of this defeat however painful and dismantle Novak on a 5 set match at the US Open. Will he?

Hard to tell, but one thing I am sure, the young wolfs, Novak Djokovic, David Murray, Richard Gasquet and Marcus Bagdahtis are no longer just showing their teeth at the pack leader, but inflicting rather serious wounds on him and little by little undermining his supremacy. At the moment Djokovic is proving to be the most perseverant and with the highest rate of success as he so superbly demonstrated today.

There were three elements among several of Djokovic's armour that impressed me:

· The hability to read Roger's mind (just like Dr. Spock in the Starship Enterprise!) to the point of toying around with the idea and execution of two drop-shots to bring Roger unwantedly to the net and to counter Roger's retrieval with feather measured lobs over a scrambling Federer who run them both down to no avail.

· The uncanny consistency he showed throughout the match, barring a few moments in the second set where there were some sloppy unforced errors, which I think it were tactically in order to recover from the follies of the first set and take charge on the third set, which he did.

· The correct use of the down the line winner or "go for broke down the line" when pulled out wide of the court. This earned Djokovic three crucial points that in many ways demoralized and surprised a Roger Federer that often is the benefactor of his opponents cross court poor play right into his racket.

Novak showed us plenty more things well done but so did Roger, which lead to a very hard fought match, highlighting that these two young men have tremendous heart and in the end it was hard to see either of them lose.

What is in this match for you?

- Be like Dr. Spock read your opponent's mind and anticipate his moves.

- Stay focused, believe in yourself from beginning to end.

- Be consistent, keep your unforced errors to a minimum.

- Go for broke when needed and use your forehand to dictate inside the court.

US Tennis Fans Expecting Roddick to Rescue the US Tennis

After the Andre Agassi and Pete Sampras eras in the ATP circuit the US tennis fans have high expectations in Andy Roddick who is pretty much the youngest American star and who has by far achieved the most success. Despite the fact Roddick has not been completely remarkable in the latest tournaments he has won ATP titles and a Grand Slam. This week's tournament the Countrywide Classic, Andy has been seeded as the number six.

Many believe Roddick still has lots to give to the tennis world and especially to the United States but he does not seem to be on the right track as after reaching the number one spot in 2003 he has not able to be in the number one spot once again. That same year Roddick achieved his maiden Grand Slam in New York City. Right after this period Roger Federer became the world number one and the Spaniard Rafael Nadal the world number two in the ATP circuit.

One of the reasons Roddick quickly descended from the top position was the fact that he lost in three Grand Slam finals during Wimbledon in 2004 and 2005 and the U.S. Open in 2006 to the Swiss master Roger Federer. Nevertheless, Roddick has incredible potential but he has not been able to find the right coach to achieve more titles.

For the moment, Andy Roddick is the highest ranked American tennis player currently placed in the 6th position. On the other hand, there is James Blake another American who is very close to Roddick, he is in the eighth position followed by Mardy Fish who is number 40.

Despite the fact Roddick is a young player with potential the tennis professional career is not very long. Roddick's age of 25 years is considered middle term for a professional tennis player; he is estimated to have a couple more years at the top seats. Certainly, a victory in the Countrywide Classic and a good performance in the upcoming 2008 U.S Open Series could boost his ranking in the ATP circuit.

Moreover this year Countrywide Classic will not be played by the top-five players of the world, leaving Andy Roddick as the favourite to win the competition. This tournament is very important and winning it would help Roddick to gain confidence and will mean good news for the American tennis fans.

The current tennis campaign has not been very successful for Roddick but he was able to include additional achievements to his curriculum as the Dubai Championship defeating Nadal, a victory over Federer in the Sony Ericsson Open and improving his record against Federer 2-15.

Following the Dubai Championship, Roddick decided to take separate roads from his 2-year-term coach in a very unexpectedly manner. Also, after Dubai he faced injuries and other negative aspects. During the Rome Masters Roddick had to withdraw due to a back pain. And during the French Open he had a shoulder injury and more recently in the Cincinnati Masters, Andy pulled out of the tournament as well due to the same injury which had not fully healed.

For Roddick the coming tournaments could mean his rise or fall in the rankings from the top ten list therefore it is very certain we will see a lot more of Andy Roddick on the American hard surfaces in the coming days while the players get set for the final Grand Slam of the ATP race.

Benefits of Vitamin B5, Sources and Deficiency

Vitamin B5 is also known as pantothenic acid. Its name is derived from the Greek word pantos meaning "from everywhere," as small quantities of pantothenic acid are found in nearly every food.

In its functional form, vitamin B5 gets combined with another small, sulfur-containing molecule to form coenzyme A (or CoA). This conversion allows vitamin B5 to participate in a wide variety of chemical and organic reactions. Coenzyme A is needed to carry out various metabolic functions, and for the generation of energy in the form of ATP from fats, carbohydrates and proteins.

Roger J. Williams, the discoverer of pantothenic acid suggested that Vitamin B5 might be helpful in the management of certain medical disorders, such as rheumatoid arthritis.

Functions of Vitamin B5 -

* Vitamin B5 is also known as the anti-stress vitamin at times. It is one of the eight water soluble B complex vitamins.

* Vitamin B5 helps production of the cellular antioxidant glutathione, and is therefore an essential vitamin for all life forms.

* Helps in the break down carbohydrates, proteins and fats for energy - thus a stamina enhancer.

* This vitamin plays an important role in production of adrenal hormones in the adrenal glands.

* Vitamin B5 helps to produce neurotransmitters, cholesterol required for proper nerve and muscle performance.

* It is also responsible for haemoglobin production and metabolism of toxins by the liver.

* It plays an important role in cell division, DNA reproduction and RNA transcription.

* It regulates the formation of stress hormones and hair pigmentation.

Deficiency of Vitamin B5 -

It is an unlikely that an adult will have a deficiency of vitamin B5 because of the availability of B5 in many foods, plus the fact that it is also produced by our intestinal bacteria.
However, a deficiency of Vitamin B5 causes fatigue, muscle weakness, personality changes, psoriasis, and headache. Vitamin B5 is often used to treat the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis, edema, swelling, pain, and stiffness in joints.

Pantothenic acid is also recommended to prevent stress and relieve insomnia, arthritis, food intolerance and teeth grinding.

Oral application of pantothenic acid helps relieve many skin problems and cure wounds.

Who are at risk of Vitamin B5 deficiency?

* Women who are on birth control pills are recommended to take extra doses of Vitamin B5.

* Smokers and alcoholics also fall under this category.

* People undergoing stress, prone to allergies or eating too many refined foods might develop a shortage of this vitamin.

Symptoms of Vitamin B5 deficiency -

· painful & burning feet

· skin abnormalities

· numbness and poor coordination

· abdominal and muscle cramps

· vomiting

· anaemia

· insomnia and depression

· stunted growth

· restlessness

Most of these symptoms and signs get resolved with external administration of pantothenic acid.
Vitamins B12, folic acid and biotin are required for proper use of vitamin B5 in the body's biochemical activities. In addition, vitamin C somewhat helps prevent B5 deficiency.

Dosage of Vitamin B5 -

Since deficiency of pantothenic acid is rare, so there is no recommended daily intake for this vitamin. Pantothenic acid is mostly included in B-complex multivitamins. The RDA for men is 10 mg and women is 8 mg.

Normal daily intake of pantothenic acid for adults is 4 to 7 milligrams. Vitamin B5 should be taken with water, preferably after eating.

Pantothenic acid does not usually cause any side effects, but pregnant and lactating mothers should be careful to consume only the normal daily intake.

Vitamin B5 can be found in multivitamins, B complex vitamins, or sold individually under the name of pantothenic acid and calcium pantothenate. It is available in a variety of forms including tablets and capsules, and must be taken under medical supervision.

Dietary sources of Vitamin B5 -

The term pantothenic acid is derived from the Greek word pantos, meaning everywhere. Vitamin B5 is widely distributed in plant and animal food sources, where it occurs in both bound and free forms.
Pantothenic acid is richly found in peanuts, liver, kidney, cauliflower, mushrooms, seeds and other nuts, pumpkin, mushrooms, legumes, sweet potato, milk, soya, cheese, egg yolk, fish, chicken, wholegrain bread and cereals, and bananas. The richest sources of the vitamin are the ovaries of cod and tuna fish.
Breakfast cereals are also a good source if they have been fortified with pantothenic acid.
Do not add soda to the water used for cooking vegetables - it will destroy the pantothenic acid.

Vitamin B5 storage -

Vitamin B5 is relatively unstable in food, and significant amounts of this vitamin can be lost through cooking, freezing, and commercial processing.
Vitamins are easily destroyed and washed out during food preparation and storage. Store vitamin supplements at room temperature, in a dry place that is free of moisture.

How L-Glutamine Works as a Supplement

Many of those who use L-Glutamine don't consider it a serious supplement and insist there are no side effects. It doesn't make you bigger, or stronger, or give you energy, or burn fat, or do anything like that, yet it could be one of the most useful supplements around.

L-Glutamine is an amino acid, exactly like protein. Because it's the most abundant free amino acid in muscle tissue it plays a principal role in protein metabolism, and anti-catabolism. Anti-catabolism is the reason most body builders take L-Glutamine. Catabolism is the breaking down of muscles, which is something no one, in particular body builders wants to happen. When you do cardio or aerobic activities they can have a catabolic effect on your muscles. Your body needs something to burn for energy when you jog, run, walk, ride a bike or take an aerobics class and sometimes you body uses your own muscle for energy. This is where L-Glutamine comes in. It allows you to maintain as much muscle as possible and prevents muscle cell breakdown.

L-Glutamine is the most abundant amino acid found in the body, and plasma glutamine levels are the highest of any amino acid. L-Glutamine is predominantly synthesized and stored in skeletal muscle. The amino acid L-glutamate is metabolized into L-Glutamine in a reaction catalyzed by the enzyme glutamine, which in addition to L-Glutamate requires ammonia, ATP and magnesium glutamate.

Many people find that L-Glutamine works best when they are in their cutting up phase, or any other time when you are trying to loose fat. During this phase you're trying to loose fat while at the same time you want to maintain as much muscle as possible. L-Glutamine can be very useful to anyone trying to do this because it is an anti-catabolic.

Although you probably aren't aware of it, you may already be taking L-Glutamine.

It's one of the ingredients of any whey protein supplement, which usually includes a few grams of it. However, this supplement is the most effective when you take about 10-15 grams daily, with the best times being first thing in the morning and right after your workout.

L-Glutamine comes in both powder and capsule form. If you take it in powder form that saves money, don't worry about the taste because it is completely tasteless and mixes with anything including water. Besides being found in many protein supplements, L-Glutamine can also be found naturally in beans, meat, fish, poultry and dairy products.

L-Glutamine is found throughout the body and plays an important role in protein metabolism. From a bodybuilder's point of view, L-Glutamine's strength is its ability to reduce the amount of muscle deterioration that happens as a result of intense physical workouts. Failing to replace the high levels of glutamine that are consumed during intense exercise can result in a greater susceptibility to illness due to weakening of the immune system. Also, L-Glutamine taken from the muscles to maintain the immune system must be replaced to keep those muscles building.

As a nutrient that occurs naturally in the body glutamine is safe to take although ingesting excessive amounts could cause an upset stomach.

Obesity Increases The Risk For Mental Decline

A new study shows that obese individuals have a 40% increased risk for dementia and an 80% increased risk for Alzheimer's. Significant mental decline affects 10% of the elderly population and rates of Alzheimer's are up 20% - consistent with the increase in obesity. There is no reason this has to happen.

I think it will come out sooner or later that the rampant overuse of cardiovascular medications, especially blood pressure and cholesterol lowering medications, will be a key factor in cognitive decline (blood pressure and cholesterol issues commonly occur in overweight individuals). Blood pressure medications, over the long haul, reduce circulation to your brain. Statin drugs actually kill brain cells at an accelerated rate. Neither can possibly be good for brain health in long term use, as the adverse effects are progressively worse over time. One day society will wake up and understand that having the proper levels of proper blood pressure and cholesterol because you are healthy is far different than drugging your body so numbers look better on paper.

Regardless of the drugs, obesity itself accelerates cognitive decline for a number of reasons:

1) Leptin does not enter the brain readily, and leptin acts as a primary antioxidant in the brain protecting against excitotoxic damage.

2) The poor energy level associated with obesity means there is less overall energy (ATP) and your brain runs on ATP.

3) The energy required to form acetylcholine for memory is lacking.

4) Fluctuating blood sugar levels, especially power outages in the afternoon, cause low-energy brain states that are highly stressful.

5) The inflammation coming from extra pounds of fat is quite stressful to your nervous system.

6) Due to all these factors overweight people have less tolerance for stress in general, meaning accelerated nervous system wear and tear from day to day demands and pressures.

Living a long life with the quality of your health requires that you maintain optimal body weight. Obesity is known to increase the risk for heart disease, diabetes, and certain types of cancer. If you are lucky enough to escape those problems, then you may have to struggle with a rapidly declining brain. Isn't it a lot easier to just eat well, be healthy, and stay fit?
